Final

Once again I would like to thank everyone that helped out.

I knew our chances were bleak when there were 9 candidates on the ballot and the Missouri TEA Parties were in complete shambles. But I have learned and I have seen.

I will no longer Blog on this site or tweet (never really tweeted in the first place). I am starting a consulting company and the web site will be davisconway.com, I may not run in another election but I am also not going away.

The People of Missouri have no direction and things will have to get worse before we will truly pay attention (Primary Election turnout proved this). I cannot tell you how many "collage educated" people I spoke too that did not understand the differences between a state and US senator, did not understand what a primary election was, or even know when it was.

I was hard on the tea parties during my campaign because people were looking to them for direction out of the usual political circle of doom and they were let down. The Missouri Tea Parties had a chance to be an independent force in our great state and instead they chose to be a disorganized self interest group that said virtually nothing.

The only thing I ever heard of the Missouri Tea Parties doing together was sign the letter stating that they did not endorse Blunt. Wow bet he cried over that one. No instead they refused to endorse or even make a half hearted attempt to interview the candidates. The few fringe ones that did endorse a candidate chose another career politician that they obviously did not research because in my opinion he was worse than Blunt. But that is ok he did horrible at the polls considering he brought in a little over 10% of the votes while being a current state politician in the spotlight and an unknown brought in over 5%.

No I have spoken to several people that have lost all faith in the Missouri TEA Parties. Why do I keep calling them the Missouri TEA parties? Because they are disorganized and split into several factions that do not agree with each other with the exception of doing nothing, and other states TEA parties came together endorsed candidates and put new faces on the November Ballot.

The words patriotism, honor, and conservatism are being twisted in this state and left dying at the feet of the tea party. When people rally around you it is not to have you say go educate yourself and make a decision, it is because they believe in your cause and want direction. It was your duty as a patriot to give it! FAIL

No matter how they try to hide it, their rallies for Blunt are going to fall on half hearted souls knowing that they are pushing for the lesser of two evils yet again.

If you ever want to fix the tea party look me up. Simple fix.

Thank you!

I would like to thank everyone for their time and vote. I enjoyed every minute of the complaining I was allowed to do.

I must tip my hat to Kristi Nichols, great Job! I must also mention Hector Maldonado because last I checked we were neck and neck with only 100 or so votes between us and he is most likely the person I would have voted for if not running myself.

While I am 99.9% sure you will not see me on another ballot, I will continue to speak my mind on the issues.

I will look at the candidates for the general election and give my personal opinion and reasons for it after I have all of the details. Yes, I may not endorse the Republican.

Tea Party – FAIL!

After criticizing the tea party and patriot organizations for months I feel that I must also point out what their obvious failures were and see if they are humble enough to learn from their numerous mistakes. I do not believe that it is too late for them but we will see.

So once again thank you everyone and check back later so we can continue to stay informed together.

Free and Equal

I wanted to take the time to remind everyone that follows my blog to please vote tomorrow. Even if you do not vote for me please vote. Prop C is very important and could use our yes vote also.

It has been very hard campaigning against the career politicians because they are experienced at telling people what they want to hear and receive far more press because of their current positions.

I obviously ran against the 2 people I knew of because I did my research on them, but there are a couple other candidates (besides me) that are good people too.
Look everyone up and stop playing follow the leader.

I will never understand why people yell we are tired of this and then vote for someone that has been a part of it for over a decade. The excuses of well we know his voting record and he has experience. Or he votes no even when it is against the party (*cough* RHINO), and did you bother to look at what those no’s were for?

No we will need to change our pattern before we can change anything else. Let us see if we vote how we feel or how we are told tomorrow. Are you one of the people that said let’s fire them all? Or do you now include exceptions to that statement?

Tomorrow is the day we are all truly equal and free.

Put it on the line

I was recently e-mailed a very simple question that I have not seen many simple answers to from my opponents. I am posting part of their e-mail and my response. I apologize for any spelling errors (Thank you ITA).

1) Until a veto override or new President is available the only thing I would be able to do is block new Socialist policy and inform the citizens of Missouri.
2) When the party is able to pass bills then I will at the least make every effort to overturn every socialist bill that has been passed including health care.

My hopes are to pass 4 new bills and/or constitutional amendments
1) With exception to war and natural disaster the Federal Government is required to have a balanced Budget. (And possibly eliminate income tax and replace with sales tax capped)
2) The Federal Government is not allowed to implement programs or policy within states that are not for the sole benefit of protection from foreign governments or foreign citizens, interstate trade, natural disaster, interstate law enforcement, Grants, or Federal law enforcement.
3) Re classify Small business from 500 or less employees to 25 or less employees. Implement special programs for these companies to help their survival rate. Exempt these companies from union organization without the owners approval. Require union's to make public 100% of their financial information. Prevent Unions from forming monopolies by limiting their organizations to the company the employees work for. Make it illegal to require union only on tax funded projects. Re-organize how prevailing wage is determined.
4) No new bills shall be voted on until the bill is made public and 24 hours per 100 pages has passed. No amendments shall be made to any bill that is not directly related to the bill. A new type of bill created called an amendment bill for amendments to various bills previously passed and the bill cannot be voted on until it has been publicly posted for 24 hours.

These may be very generalized but I believe that this would be a very good start.

Believe

I have learned several things about politics in general over the last few months and I believe that the people are here for the fight but the same old machine is still running the program.

I have stopped answering questionnaires from associations or groups because I find most of them to be contrary to what should be expected from a representative of the people. For example there was one association that I agreed with and thought that they would seriously benefit from me being in office, but part of their questionnaire wanted me to promise and introduce 1 piece of legislation per year on their behalf.

That is not how I work, I am not going to start telling everyone that I agree fully with everything that they do or believe just for an endorsement, I am not going to sell my honor for a vote. My job would be for the best interest of Missouri and the wishes of Missourians even if it was not how I personally felt. If that is my demise then so be it.

There are several problems we face and my primary goal will be to fix the root of the cause. There is more info on my website but here are the primary problems that I believe need correction and will do everything in my power to accomplish that goal.

1) Shrink the size of Government – Our Federal government has turned into an inefficient blob that no one seems to be able to control or organize. It is full of needless jobs, agencies, and policy solely for the benefit of gaining votes, employing friends and family, hiding money and paybacks. Agencies that we rely on or need are lost in this mess and cannot perform efficiently.

2) Support small business – I do not think that the government realizes that small business with 25 or less employee’s is the life blood of our economy. Small business needs to be given the tools and resources to succeed.

3) Education – Our education standing is deplorable. The Federal Government needs to reward success, not compliance in poorly fabricated government programs and policy.

4) Welfare – The largest crippling downfall of our government was the bright idea of paying people to do nothing. Yes we should take care of those that cannot physically take care of themselves but today’s policy is beyond ridiculous. When people know that the government will support them they will do less in general. We should not pay for those that simply choose not to work.

I believe that all of our issues stem from one of the four listed above and I believe that all four are caused by politicians desire for power. Let the federal government protect me from foreign invaders and ensure interstate harmony but leave everything else up to the states.

Thanks for the invite

As the election draws nearer I will be trying to Blog more.

I have felt very bad over the last couple of months and weeks to come about not attending all of the events that I have been invited to.

I hope that everyone realizes that I have a family to feed and a business that was terribly affected by the recession. I have made plans for my company if the election goes in my favor but at this time it would be foolish to drop everything.

Unfortunately I do not have a government job or paycheck that affords me the luxury of traveling to all of the events like some of the other candidates.

At times I have left work to drive for hours to attend a function that lasts hours so that I can speak for 3-5 minutes before or after a few other people running for the same position. And believe it or not we all say close to the same thing because we all know what you want to hear. I am not saying that because we do not believe it also, I am just pointing out 3-9 people saying basically the same thing for 3-5 minutes each not only makes the crowd lose interest but at times I blank out myself. Then I drive home for hours trying not to fall asleep along the way because I have to be back at work in a few short hours.

Then there are the events where the above applies but they also want anywhere from $50 to $200 from me to “rent” a table to put out my information.

I wish I could attend every event and speak to everyone that cares to listen. But the reality of it is that it is just not physically or financially possible at this point. I do not feel with so many other candidates I am spending my time or donators money wisely.

If we really want to elect someone based on what they believe and their ability then we are going to have to do the leg work. Listening to them for a couple of minutes at an event really just tells you who the best speaker is and not what they will do for us.

Here let me give you a simple breakdown of myself,
1. I have lived in Missouri all of my life and my father’s family moved here during the civil war.
2. I have owned an electrical contracting business that I started at age 26 in 1996 and built it up to about $3,000,000.00 in annual sales in 2007. After the recession that number was $300,000.00 in 2009.
3. I understand having bill collectors call and watching the government give money to companies that do not deserve it while I get nothing except a tax break for hiring new people that I do not need because there is no work.
4. I know that 80% of the people in Missouri work for a company that employs 25 or less people.
5. I wrote a book over 1 ½ years ago that warned of the unions greed and power in our government. (Next time your school cuts programs or teachers, read the book!)
6. Life Member of the NRA for over 18 years.
7. I am a member of MENSA and Intertel. That means that my IQ is in the 99th percentile. I am not bragging, it is just a fact.
8. I have never held office so I do not owe anyone any political favors.

So, I have deep roots in our state, I understand small business and the affect the recession has had on all of us, I thoroughly understand that the government and unions are wasting our money every day, I like guns and own many, I am unquestionably more intelligent than the other candidates, and I do not need to understand a game that I do not plan to play because no one has anything over me.

Now if you are leaning towards another candidate just ask yourself what would they put above? Or is your only qualification for electing someone is that they eloquently tell you what they know you want them to say?

P.S. Just because they have done it before does not mean that they do it well. 50% of the Doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class.

Patriot Guard

As we celebrate our countries independence I am not going to talk about myself or the campaign. I am not going to solely mention our men and women at war this holiday because they are in my thoughts every day.

We celebrate this holiday because people like you and me stood up against a government that they did not believe in. We have all of our freedoms and ability to speak our mind, live and work where we want, and replace politicians we do not like with anyone we choose every few years because everyday people fought and died for it.

This year I will be thanking the Patriot Guard! Superficial people may turn their nose up at them but in my opinion they show more respect and patriotism to our country than half the people I know. They do not do it for party, policy, PR, or wealth.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to respect those that protect us.

Purgason voting record, have you looked?

If you are reading this then you probably agree with me that Government has gone awry and Roy Blunt is part of the problem. He has had a 14+ year political run of being a yes man for the Republican Party and Oil Companies.

People have continued to tell me that they vote for Blunt because he has voted their way on every issue. Ok, I would argue that I would not have voted for TARP or any Federal government involvement into business but let us put that aside for now. What has Roy Blunt actually done for you or Missouri?

In my opinion next to nothing, his bill sponsorship record says it all. Do not count co-sponsored bills, they are like someone from the office buying the boss a birthday present and everyone signs the card.

So what do we do? It seems that some people are just running to the next politician. Yes, I am talking about Chuck Purgason. These people are why we are stuck in this perpetual rut of politics. Hello, Chuck is a 14 year politician with a term limit looming.

Have you ever looked at his voting record? Oh yes I know he states that he is a big cost cutter conservative, but were those no’s in the best interest of Missouri or part of a plan to have a Senate race platform? In reality we have to spend money to function and saying no to all expenditures is ridiculous and by no means conservative.

Here is a direct quote from someone that replied to one of my Blogs, “What if he killed over 80 bills that would add costs to Missouri's budget in just one year?”. Well first of all I am sure that his 1 vote is not the sole reason these bills did not pass, last time I checked it still took a majority in the Missouri government. I am sure that I could also say that about all of the other “accomplishments” that person listed. Conservatism does not equal saying no to all expenditures, it means investing wisely and eliminating waste.

Now searching for his voting record I did find some interesting things out, Chuck votes NO on some issues that I would have voted yes on. In fact he voted NO on issues that passed with margins as high as 26 YES and only 7 NO in a Republican majority Senate. So that leaves me with 2 lines of thought, 1) Chuck Purgason is against improving Business, Education, and Law Enforcement (Proven by his voting history), 2) He abused his power and voted NO on everything that showed an expenditure for Missouri (With exception to ones that had a big federal payout) so he would have a Senate platform to run on.

I will leave that up to you to decide, but a good site to view is votesmart.org.

This is why our forefathers did not put any prerequisites into the constitution for holding office. Otherwise People would run for an office that they did not care about or manipulate their voting before elections so they could climb the political ladder and abuse the peoples trust. Both Roy and Chuck have name recognition because people in parts of our state voted them into office, apart from that they are no different than you or I.

I also keep hearing people talk about experience, what is political experience anyway? Does that mean they are better at saying yea or nay? Or does that mean that they are better at playing the game that has left us all out in the cold? I may not have experience in politics but I do not intend on playing any games anyway. Do not feel bad if you have shown loyalty to one of these guys, they are “experienced” at the game and no one will know who you actually vote for.

Please think smart and end this political insanity. Good people are out there and need to be found. Unfortunately all of us do not have millions of dollars, a government paycheck, or a public platform. We are here, break the cycle and come find us. Be a real grass roots patriot and fight instead of follow.

Once again our "Patriots" miss the point

Below is the copy of an e-mail I recieved from an organization that has never invited me to speak. Another organization leader mentioning other organizations that don't ask us to speak or return our e-mails to help and continue our current career politician cycle.

I have every reason to believe that every person who has filed for this seat has done so out of love for our country and a sincere interest in giving Missouri a true conservative in Washington. But the truth is that only one person will be elected, and the only possible way to see someone defeat Roy Blunt is for the other candidates to give their combined and enthusiastic support to a single candidate.

Because I believe the experience and voting record of Chuck Purgason makes him the most qualified candidate, and see him as the person with the best chance to win on August 3, I am personally working hard to help him get elected. We have polled the leaders of conservative, Tea Party organizations throughout the state, and of the dozens who responded, more than eighty percent are Purgason supporters. I have personally interviewed many activists and organizers from around the state and found that almost all those I have spoken with are going to work for Purgason. Would you please, seriously consider withdrawing from the campaign, endorse, and join the campaign team for Senator Purgason?

The more names on the ballot, even if someone is not a serious candidate, will only confuse the voters and help to secure a victory for Roy Blunt. We must be realistic. Who has a real chance of defeating Roy Blunt in this primary? Chuck Purgason is the only person, and that will only happen if we can mobilize the conservative voters from around the state. We must work hard, and we have to begin soon. Let’s look at this as more than a possible win for Purgason, or a loss for other candidates like yourself, but as a win for conservatives, as well as a defeat and a clear message to the Republican establishment. Please, for the cause of liberty and victory, help us win this race.

Dear Thomas.
I would like to point out the following for you.
1) I beat both Roy and Chuck in every PUBLIC poll that I am included in from organizations that have allowed me to speak.
2) What message are you trying to send to Washington? The people are upset and here is a different career politician? Ya that should really get them in line.
3) Chuck independently has continued to poll terribly against Blunt and Carnahan.
4) There are people that have donated thousands of dollars to my campaign and expect me to continue. There are associations that have publicly endorsed me based upon my message.
5) Chuck may be a good man but there are other good men running and the consistent message that the 7 other Candidates are continually emphasizing is that Career Politicians are what got us here and Chuck Purgason is also a career politician.

So if you halfway believe in common sense and what you tell your members about the people taking our government back, I would like you to think about this.

Chuck Purgason is not a new message to Washington and just the same thing with a minor message that the people did not support the Republican chosen one. Chuck will not beat Blunt and Blunt will most likely not beat Carnahan.

Support a candidate without a history, favors owed, and not obviously looking for a promotion. That is why our founding fathers did not include prerequisites in our constitution for times just like this. Are you going to continue the cycle or send a Missourian to the White House that does not know the game or care about it, one that is not looking for re-election and just wants to speak for the people of our state no matter how unpopular? Have you been fair to your members and asked the other candidates to speak to them or are you just jumping on an experienced promises bandwagon?

No sir I am not going to withdraw and I am confident that a couple of the others will not either. I am also very confident that any of the others that may withdraw would NOT throw their support to Chuck.

If you want to make a difference then I suggest that you and the tea parties start practicing what you preach and ask Chuck to withdraw and support one of us, a real message that Missouri will not stand for the status quo anymore.

Davis Conway
Candidate for US Senate.

Patriots or Pawns?

I am simply amazed that the news continues to talk about the important NOVEMBER election between Blunt and Carnahan. It fills me with contempt that our primary election is being decided months before it happens and just simply omitted from our election cycle.

I knew the Republican Party did not care about me or the others running for the office but I also became quite aware that the Tea Party, Patriots, 9/12ers, local radio, and national radio did not seem to care either.

Part of the reason I decided to run for office was the fact that I didn’t like the path of our government in general over the last few decades and thought that all of the people attending rallies and events felt the same way. I thought we wanted one of us to represent our state and not someone in for 14 years looking for 20. I thought we wanted to make a statement to Washington and the Republican Party we are tired of the status quo.

NEWS FLASH Roy Blunt will not send anyone any message!

After the candidates had filed I waited for my phone to ring but nothing happened. After my first debate and winning the online poll against Blunt and Purgason I waited for my phone to ring but still nothing. I sent out e-mails to all of the news and party people I could find and nothing.

Do not get me wrong I am invited to several events as a crowd participant, to sell advertising, or buy a booth, but rarely to speak. In fact I purposely did not go to a recent event because the organizers were almost insulting over the fact that I had not yet purchased a booth.

So what are all of these event organizers after? Money, power, fame, or what? Where is the guidance for the primary election? If they are not going to pick a candidate to support in the primary election then what is everyone out there really taking their time to do? Are we all just pawns doing the Republican Party dirty work under a different name?

If the TEA, etc Parties do not stick their necks out to support a primary candidate then we are all just Roy Blunt supporters saying the past 14 years of nothing we received from him and our party were ok, that term limits are ridiculous, that we believe in generations of the same families speaking for us, and that all of our protest signs should really just have a big elephant on them.

Hello, the primary election is for all of us to tell our party who we want in the general election and not the other way around. Before you waste one more minute of your time holding a sign ask your leaders who the organization supports in the primary election? If they say Blunt or nobody ask them why? If they say that they cannot because of their organization standing with the Federal Government, then ask them why they can’t invite anyone running they may favor to speak at an event? If they still say no then call them a coward.

I will continue to go where asked to speak even though my chances of winning the primary are almost nonexistent. I am doing what I can to fix this, can you say the same?

If I am not at your event then it was most likely because I was not invited to address the crowd and I am not a merchant peddling my wares at the market. The people that do donate what little I have expect me to spend it wisely and lining the pockets of someone that does not support me (or anyone else) seems a little wasteful.

Health Care Died Today

Today all of the efforts made by our forefathers 230+ years ago was twisted and disrespected like never before. May the supreme court and State Government save us!
Our government has taken the first step in socialist health care under the disguise of helping the less fortunate and reducing debt.
If you believe for one second that this is in any way better for our country, debt, health care service, health care improvements and invention, then you are (Here go some votes) just plain STUPID.
Before any of you that I just offended try and tell me or anyone that stands with me that we are stupid then I must point out 1 inarguable fact, I am a genius so unless you can prove that you are way more intelligent than me, shut up! You idiots just ruined health care for my children.
The Federal Government doesn't run any programs well and just took the first step in Socializing health care. I am sure many future hidden amendments will expand upon their control.
This bill did not just provide "health" care for the "needy" and tremendously raise our taxes to pay for it, it is the first step towards waiting months to see a doctor and hope that maybe he will ok seeing a specialist. Hoping that the doctor is a good one in the first place because they just gave the ok for government regulation of their pay and it may no longer be a field worth working in. Hoping that if you see a doctor intime to prevent you from dying that all of the paperwork is approved so you can have the needed treatment in time.
Or how about this your child is sick and the government does not approve the treatment because it is too costly?
Even when Obama made his speech about the Lady dying in the hospital bed that could not afford to have health care did anyone notice that SHE WAS IN A HOSPITAL, not at home, in a gutter, or out in the rain.
Before this bill no one let us die without minimal treatment, people are not needlessly dying in the streets. Before this we had the option to pay, work more, borrow, and beg to recieve more than basic treatment. Soon you will see that we only have the option of begging.
Today you could lose your house and go bankrupt paying for life saving treatments for your child, tomorrow the government will just tell you if they live or die and then even if they say live lets hope the care is not so crappy they die anyway. But I guess you would still have your house?
Stand with me to stop all of this federal government control. Put the power back in the states. www.xparty.org

MO Decides Debate

The Debate hosted by MO Decides was a great event! Being my first debate I was nervous as can be. I think I did ok and everyone else seems to think I did great. I am still trying to obtain the video from the event.
I must commend the 7 other people that decided to run against Blunt because I completely understand their anger and need for patriotic duty. But unfortunately 8 people running against Blunt are going to ensure his easy primary victory. And I also believe it will lead to Carnahans general election victory when so many people tired of the typical Blunt type politics vote for other parties.
I am not going to go into the technicalities and probabilities but common sense tells us that the Republican Party is once again shooting themselves in the foot by strongly backing Blunt so early. But that is what we have come to expect from them also. We are supposed to blindly do as they say and have no opinion.
There were really only 2 other candidates (Besides myself) that stood out at the debate and they were Current State Sen. Chuck Pergason and Hector Maldonado. Hey I do not mind giving someone their dues, especially right before I tear into them.
Chuck Pergason has been in politics for some time and by no surprise has the public speaking part down. But when it comes down to it he is a typical career politician and if people are left to choose between 2 career politicians they will most likely choose the one that their party endorses. Besides I think most of us are tired of the same old thing when that is what caused our problems today.
Hector Maldonado, I would like to thank him and show my respect for his military service to this country. This training also made him a good public speaker. But unfortunately excluding the extreme sense of patriotic duty he is a little one dimensional. The military does not train you in business plus receiving regular government pay and benefits does not truly let experience the problems most of us have been facing.
I had told everyone that this was a make or break debate and while (This minute) it would be presumptive and arrogant of me to call it a home run, it was definitely a triple. After the debate I still feel that I am the best candidate, and the ONLY chance we have to beat Carnahan.
